Adidas boosts sales by strengthening its running shoe category

Adidas achieved net sales of €6,6 billion (+12%) in the third quarter of 2025, driven by strong sales of running and football shoes, FashionNetwork reports.

Gross margin increased slightly to 51,8%, and operating profit increased by 23% to €736 million. While net profit was €485 million, the group nevertheless emphasized that the impact of hyperinflation was negatively impacting its financial performance.

In the first nine months of the 2025 financial year, the Adidas brand recorded growth of 14%, with double-digit gains across all markets and distribution channels. Net profit reached €1,3 billion, an increase of 52%, while operating margin reached 10,1%, and operating profit increased 48% to €1,9 billion. The group forecasts operating profit of approximately €2 billion for the full year.

Running footwear stood out with growth of over 30%, driven by the success of Adizero models, particularly the Evo SL, and the revival of the iconic Samba.

Adidas impressed investors with its profitability in the third quarter, but disappointed with its revenue growth. The group is grappling with the negative impact of a strong euro and a weak dollar, as well as other exchange rate fluctuations, and is seeking to mitigate the impact of the massive tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

The strengthening euro had a negative impact on third-quarter sales of more than €300 million, Adidas reports. The only region where the brand didn't record double-digit growth was North America, where sales at constant exchange rates increased by 8% during the period. Meanwhile, according to the group, sales increased by 10% in China and 12% in Europe.

Adidas is looking to strengthen its market share among the general public who enjoy running and walking.

In the football segment, Adidas noted strong demand for products related to its recent partnership with Liverpool Football Club, as well as updated versions of the F50 and Predator boots.

Adidas' lifestyle sales grew by 10%, driven by continued strong demand for retro sneakers like the Samba and Gazelle, which were presented in new colors and materials. The company also began expanding its Superstar line, a franchise that Björn Gulden hopes will help sustain interest in Adidas' casual footwear.
