Adidas has produced and sold more than a million pairs of shoes, the production of which uses yarn obtained from the processing of ocean plastic.
The processing of ocean plastic into polymer, from which it is possible to produce knitted thread suitable for creating the top of athletic shoes, is carried out by the adidas partner, Parley. A partnership project with Parley began with adidas back in 2016.
Shoes made of this material are almost indistinguishable from regular adidas shoes.
In 2017, adidas released three new versions of UltraBoost sneakers in the production of which this material was used. It takes approximately 11 plastic bottles to make one pair of sneakers. Such plastic is used for the production of upper shoes, laces, overlays for heels and socks of sneakers.
