Adidas invited Shinsuke Nakada, creative director of the Japanese lifestyle brand Beams, to update the well-known sneaker model of the German sports brand Stan Smith. The result of the collaboration was a hybrid shoe model – sneakers-loafers.
The classic sneaker features a premium suede upper with a perforated hood overlay and tassels covering the laces.
The sneakers are available in brown and black color options. Both options are lined in khaki leather. Sneakers with a design borrowed from loafers are part of a large trend of hybridization of sneakers, combining a relaxed sporty style and elegant classics.
For example, Puma recently, in collaboration with Palomo Spain, transformed its Nitefox sneakers into loafers, doing this immediately after the successful release of the New Balance 1906L loafer sneakers.
The adidas Stan Smith collaboration marks Nakada's first foray with Adidas as a designer in his own right, and last year he launched his own label, Inlyly. Through Beams, he has regularly collaborated with New Balance and Reebok, and has also worked less frequently with Adidas, Nike, Asics and Mizuno. Just last year, a collaboration between Beams and New Balance turned the 2002R into a mule.
The Shinsuke Nakada x Adidas Stan Smith Lux capsule collection is available now through Adidas Japan.
