Amazon is testing package delivery drones

Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, is gearing up to test drone delivery in the UK.

Two years after purchasing Cambridge startup Evi Technologies, the company began to search for engineers and experts who could help in testing aircraft. It is possible that military experts will be involved in such tests. Flights will take place over the territory of Cambridge. The exact date the test began has not been disclosed.

The project, called Prime Air, in the future will allow customers to receive packages in only 30 minutes after confirming the order. Amazon drones will fly into the air no higher than 122 meters, and their total weight will not exceed 25 kg, while the maximum weight of the package itself is limited to 2,3 kg.

Amazon is already experimenting with the delivery of packages using drones at its facilities in Seattle, Washington. Experts believe that at least 3-5 years will take to implement the ambitious idea of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
