Information began to appear in the press that the American company Amazon was planning to launch a Russian-language website and open a representative office in Russia.
The Internet retailer Amazon is going to enter the Russian market, but no official information and details of how and when this will be done have yet been reported. Arkady Vitruk, who previously headed the Azbuka Atticus publishing house, is to become the director of the Russian representative office. In this regard, according to the newspaper "Vedomosti", the commercial director of the online store Ozon Andrey Chechin makes the assumption that Amazon will start its activities in the field of media content.
Amazon, founded in 1994, is today one of the largest retailers in the world (including one of the largest retailers on the Internet). Amazon has representative offices in Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain and the United Kingdom. In 2012, the company's turnover amounted to 61 billion dollars. According to Morgan Stanley, in 2012, 19% of all online purchases in Russia were made through Amazon.
