The Italian Shoe Association will lobby for the return of Made In markings.
Italian footwear association ANCI expressed deep disappointment with the latest decision of the European Commission - European Trade Commissioner Karel de Gucht said that the issue of Made In labeling is no longer relevant and will be removed from the agenda in 2013.
Let us remind you that in 2010 the Italian association achieved mandatory marking of the origin of goods Made In - this was done so that consumers would have comprehensive information about the real place of production of shoes. This measure was supposed to protect European shoe manufacturers.
However, manufacturers from Germany and neighboring countries began to object to mandatory labeling in the same 2010, citing the global division of labor and difficulties in identifying the production of each individual pair, as components are usually brought from different countries.
ANCI said it would lobby for the return of the amendment and had already expressed its concern in a letter to EU Economic Development Minister Corrado Passer. Based on materials from the site analpa.ru.
