Asics invests in conductive textiles

Asics, the Japanese manufacturer of sports equipment, made its first investment and acquired a stake in AI SILK Corporation, a venture capital company affiliated with Tohoku University, and focused on the development of conductive textiles, writes worldfootwear.com.

Conductive textiles are fabrics that can conduct electricity. It can be made of metal strands woven into the fabric structure. AI SILK was founded in 2015 and, using the technology of Tohoku University, is developing a direction of conductive textiles that is comfortable for the leather.

The patented technology will be used by Asics Sports Technology Institute to develop sports equipment from new high-tech materials.

Creating unique innovations is one of the main strategies in the medium-term development of Asics until the 2020 year. Asics focuses on developing revolutionary products, services and processes that change the quality of life of consumers.

Investments in the project are made through a subsidiary of Asics Venture Corporation, established by Asics in November 2016 to accelerate the development of innovation and cooperation with other venture companies supporting advanced technologies.
