Creative director Olivier Rousteing of French luxury brand Balmain has challenged athletic style footwear with a new sculpted sneaker silhouette inspired by aerodynamic speedboats.
Layers of angular shapes create a complex, streamlined silhouette, while the curved outsole is composed of eight sectional shapes that together provide a cushioning system. The shoe's layered design is complemented by loop-shaped matte rubber inserts. The individual elements of the shoe are tied together by three polypropylene elastic bands attached to thin laces that wrap around the outside of the shoe and under the split sole. The price of a pair of Balmain Unicorns is $1195.
To introduce sneakers, the fashion house has teamed up with digital artist Jeff Cole to launch their new product into the metaverse. Cole has transformed Olivier Rousteing's latest sneaker design into a futuristic unique horse shape that features bright colors and bold patterns that turn into black and white, gold and white, and multi-color tonal blends. The Balmain Unicorn and Jeff Cole collaboration will be used as part of the fashion house's upcoming social media campaign to introduce the Unicorn sneaker.
