Bangladesh records growth in exports of leather and leather products

From July 2021 to April 2021, Bangladesh's leather and leather goods exports amounted to $2022 billion, with a 1,01% increase in exports compared to the same period last year, according to World Footwear 33 analytical yearbook. About 60% of this volume is accounted for by sales of leather shoes, writes Worldfootwear.com.

Bangladesh's leather footwear exports grew by $607 million in the reporting period. In the ten months to April 2022, leather goods exports reached $273,18 million, up 34,51% from the same period last fiscal year. Export of finished leather increased by 36,93%, amounting to $131,59 million.

Exports of other footwear increased by 34,92% in the first ten months of the current fiscal year to $374,9 million.

In 2020, Bangladesh was the 8th largest footwear producer (423 million pairs) and 9th largest consumer market (366 million pairs) in the world. Most of its production is supplied to the domestic market, with only 2020 million pairs exported in 72 (making it the 16th largest footwear exporter). Exports have grown steadily and sharply for many years, but in 2020 they have fallen for the first time in a decade.
