Antwerp-born fashion brand Bikkembergs has launched an archival project with a collection of fifty-three pieces from the past. "These are things that don't need to be updated for people to like, they just need to be rediscovered and worn," Bikkembergs creative director Lee Wood introduced the collection.
The archival project of the brand is called "Return to Antwerp", the collection includes fifty-three items designed by the founder of the brand, a representative of the famous "Antwerp Six" Dirk Bikkembergs.
These are not clothes "inspired" by the products of the Belgian designer who founded the clothing and accessories brand in 1986, and they are not fakes. These are the original models of things that were presented at fashion shows in the 1990s and early 2000s. Among them are garments that have played an important role in the history of the brand and its formation, such as the 2006 FIFA World Cup t-shirt, which Italy won, the cardigan with the iconic Pixel Wave print, a series of chunky yet comfortable sheepleather outerwear, as well as pea coats, which contributed to the success of the Sport Couture concept on which the Bikkembergs brand bases its identity. The project is intended both for fans of the brand and for the younger generation.
“For me,” says Lee Wood, the past has always had incredible value. When it came to choosing clothes for the Archive - Return to Antwerp project, I began to look back at the Bikkembergs shows, choosing those items that best exemplify the continuity - from its origins to the present and even the future. These are things that do not need to be updated to make people like them, they just need to be taken and worn. Dirk Bikkembergs was always ahead of his time.”
Antwerp, with its quiet marinas and harbours, old docks and windmills, was the perfect place to shoot the collection's lookbook. Fifty-three pieces from the limited collection "Archive - Return to Antwerp" are available exclusively online at bikkembergs.com.
