German footwear brand Birkenstock is investing 15 million euros in the construction of a production site in the district of Arouco in northern Portugal. The new enterprise is designed for 600 jobs, reports The Portugal News website.
In fact, Birkenstock acquired shoe manufacturer S&CC Portugal, one of its long-standing suppliers, to build a new factory ten times larger than its existing capacity.
Work on the new production facility, which will cover an area of 13 square meters in the industrial zone of São Domingos, is due to be completed in December next year. By 000, the number of jobs at the new enterprise should increase to 2025–600.
