Bottega Veneta releases film on artisan tradition in luxury

Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta is preparing to release a film called "Craft in Motion". Directed by Massimiliano Bomba, the film explores the creation of Intrecciato's signature weave and the fashion house's artisanal know-how, reports WWD.

Believing that “silent power”, i.e. exceptional craftsmanship and creativity, is the real strength of the Bottega Veneta brand, its creative director Mathieu Blazy opined that “luxury is what you feel rather than see; it is much more personal and emotional for a person who wears clothes or shoes than for those who look at it from the side. I want the wearer to have power and the clothes not to be loud. Style is above fashion in its timelessness.

Blasi introduced and perfected time-honored methods of working with leather. For example, the Bottega Veneta collection features knitted leather pumps, printed leather jeans and Kalimero's signature handmade bucket bag, which requires about 55 meters of calfleather and is created without any stitches.

"Craft is not a 'trend' and it's not something that needs to be improved," continued Blasi. “This is timeless technology. Handmade irregularities make each Bottega Veneta design unique. For me, that's real luxury."

The film is narrated by one of the fashion brand's coolest artisans, Ruggiero Negretto. The painting shows the work on the Cabat, Kalimero, Sardine and other Bottega Veneta bags, each hand cut, stitched, sewn and woven.

The film will be promoted in a number of media outlets and will be screened in selected theaters and museums around the world.
