French luxury brand Chanel will hold its exclusive Métiers d'art 2024/25 collection show in China, on the famous West Lake in Hangzhou, 200 kilometers south of Shanghai. The event will take place on December 3, writes Fashion Network.
Hangzhou West Lake has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011, and its large size (15 km in circumference and 3 km in diameter) and breathtaking beauty have inspired many poets and artists.
The lake is depicted on a large 31th-century lacquer screen in Gabrielle Chanel's apartment at XNUMX rue Cambon in Paris. According to a Chanel press release, "this image served as a source of inspiration for the Parisian trendsetter."
The brand invited German director Wim Wenders and actress Tilda Swinton to take part in the creation of a short film, in which the director follows the British actress from Gabrielle Chanel's office on rue Cambon, where she admires an ancient and precious Chinese screen, to a famous lake in China.
The choice of China as the location for Chanel's landmark show is, of course, also dictated by commercial considerations. Luxury brands are increasing the number of events in the Middle Kingdom. Despite the slowdown in sales, the Chinese market remains the most important for luxury. Hangzhou is among the top ten most important cities for the luxury segment after Beijing and Shanghai.
