French luxury brand Chanel's Métier d'Art show for the 2022-2023 season, which took place on December 6, 2022 in Dakar, Senegal's capital, will be re-run in Tokyo on June 1, 2023, writes WWD.
The French luxury house made history as the first European luxury brand to host a fashion show in Africa, with the launch of its latest line of products created within the walls of Chanel's artisan ateliers in Dakar, Senegal on December 6th.
Featuring Pharrell Williams, Naomi Campbell, Whitney Peake, Nile Rogers, Princess Caroline of Monaco and her daughter Charlotte Casiraghi, the 2022-2023 Chanel Métiers d'Art show was part of the Senegalese capital's three-day cultural program and reflects the cultural exchange between House and Chanel. A repeat of the Métiers d'Art show in Tokyo "confirms the strength of Chanel's close ties to Japan," the fashion house said in a press release.
The Japanese capital was the first international destination for this traditionally traveling show, which was launched in 2002 by the late Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld to highlight the work of Chanel's artisan workshops.
Chanel Métiers d'Art shows were held in such cities as Shanghai, Rome, Edinburgh, Salzburg, Havana, all these cities are connected with the history of the fashion house.
The Chanel Métiers d'Art collection showcases the talents of the house's artisans. Among them are the jewelry atelier Desrues, the atelier of the feather master Lemarié, the atelier of embroidery Maison Lesage and Atelier Montex, the atelier of shoes Massaro, the atelier of fashion Maison Michel and the atelier of the cashmere specialist Barrie.
