Chanel plans to modernize its tannery in France

Bodin-Joyeux, a Chanel-owned company, has unveiled plans to build a new tannery in Levroux, a municipality in the Indre region. The company notes that the expansion and modernization plan is significant not only for Chanel but for the entire leather industry: "New tanneries haven't been built in France for at least 50 years."

Alain Hubert, director of Bodin-Joyeux, admitted in an interview with the local press: “We are lucky to have shareholders who believe in leather.”

Founded in 1860 and specializing in sheepleathers, the Bodin-Joyeux tannery employs approximately 100 people and has a production capacity of 500,000 hides per year. Currently, the company operates out of two locations in the city center, preventing expansion. However, moving to a new facility in Bel Air will allow the company to "modernize production facilities and increase production volumes, optimize work processes, improve employee comfort, and reduce its environmental impact."
