French luxury footwear and accessories brand Christian Louboutin's 4000-square-foot flagship boutique first opened in New York City on Madison Avenue in 2015. This year, the New York flagship underwent a renovation, with a redesign that reflects the French shoe designer's love of Egypt and seaside vacations.
The master tried to make the boutique space look like a cozy living room. "Boutiques should look like a living room, where people feel not in a store, but in the home of a friend who loves them and knows them well," Louboutin believes.
The interior is full of red, the signature color of Christian Louboutin heels and soles. The space is decorated with various crystals and geodes from the designer's collection. Antique wrought iron gates, purchased by Mr. Louboutin during a European tour, separate the men's and women's areas of the boutique.
Other signature design details include hand-painted papyrus plinths, textiles featuring floral and aquatic illustrations by Louis Barthélemy for the Pierre Frey fabric house, and original sconces inspired by the landscapes of the Nile.
The updated boutique also became a store for the French brand's new arrivals. Along with a wide range of men's and women's shoes and leather goods, the boutique on Madison Avenue will be the first flagship store in the United States to feature the Christian Louboutin children's collection, which was launched in 2022. It will also sell cosmetics from the Christian Louboutin Beaute series, as well as Christian Louboutin Fétiche Le Cuir perfume.
