Christian Louboutin wins unfair competition case in China

Christian Louboutin won yet another victory over the right to use red soles on shoes, this time the Chinese company Guangdong Wanlima Industrial Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of leather goods, was caught in unfair competition. The company is listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. 

The Beijing Intellectual Property Court ruled that Wanlima uses a red-soled design, and the term "red-soled shoes" in its product description is very similar to the branding style of French luxury brand Christian Louboutin, which constitutes a "malicious infringement" of French brand design. luxury brand.

 

According to court documents, Wanlima was ordered to immediately stop selling the red-soled shoes and pay the French company 5 million yuan, or $721, in damages and 948 yuan, or $445, in legal costs.

 

Christian Louboutin began promoting its red-soled shoes in mainland China in 2003 and launched in 2011. Since then, sales in mainland China have topped 900 million yuan, or $129,9 million, according to the French luxury brand.

 

This information was enough to prove that the Christian Louboutin brand is known and has influence in the Chinese market and for the court to side with Louboutin.
