The American publication Footwearnews.com decided to study the trend of ballet flat sneakers, the development of which we follow very closely. Journalists interviewed shoe market experts in order to find out their forecasts for the development of this category and to clarify the reasons for the popularity of this style.
On the resale platform StockX, which primarily sells sneakers, sales of sneakers with the term “ballerina” or “ballet” increased more than 1000% from February to March. Searches for those two metrics increased 264% and 442% year-over-year in March, respectively.
One of the reasons for the growing popularity of ballet flats is believed to be fatigue from ugly sneakers and a demand for something fresher.
Let's recall the brands that supported the new wave: Adidas with the Bad Bunny Ballerina model. Puma redesigned the Mostro and Speedcat in the style of ballet flats. Crocs debuted with the Terre Ballet Core, and Louis Vuitton presented the Sneakerina. Experts believe that 2025 will be the year of ballet sneakers, with other brands joining in.
