Clarks appoints Martin Rose as first guest shoe designer
British-Jamaican menswear designer Martin Rose, founder of the label of the same name, has been announced as Clarks' first guest creative director.
Rose's debut collection will include three silhouettes: Clarks loafers, oxfords and sandals. For more comfortable footwear, which is an important quality in brand positioning, Rose is going to add down to the shoe insoles, a material that Clarks has not previously worked with.
Commenting on the color palette of the first collection, Rose said: “There has to be something familiar about it so that you can pick up the riff. In fact, we tried to make the palette more classic, so it will be very simple: black, oxblood and snakeleather.”
Prior to Clarks, Rose has worked with brands such as Nike, Stüssy and Tommy Jeans. Martin Rose was reportedly considered as one of the potential creative directors for Louis Vuitton's menswear line. However, this position was eventually assigned to Pharrell Williams.
Rose's first collection for Clarks will be showcased during the launch of the Martine Rose collection at London Men's Fashion Week in June. The shoes will go on sale in March 2023.
