Clarks recalls 8 shoes from sale due to the presence of toxic substances in them

British shoe company Clarks has announced a recall of 8 shoes from the spring-summer 2022 collection from the sale. The reason is the excessive level of chemicals hazardous to health, which was identified as a result of testing shoe samples, writes Worldfootwear.com.

“The footwear recall is safety related because testing of some shoe samples revealed excessive levels of the chemicals benzidine or dimethoxybenzidine, which are found in azo dyes and are banned in some jurisdictions,” the company said in a statement. Prolonged and direct contact with upper material can expose the wearer to these chemicals, which are toxic and can cause adverse health effects.

The recall concerns eight models introduced in the spring-summer season 2022, which, therefore, were sold between February and October 2022 and differ by geography. So, in the US, these are Breeze Step in dark blue, dark blue and dark blue / white, Breeze Avy in dark blue and Breeze Shore in dark blue; outside of America, these are the Brinkly Ave, Brinkly Step and Brinkley Shore models, all in navy blue.

Clarks has already notified all relevant regulators and is working with retail partners. Victims must follow the instructions set out by the company on the Internet.
