Converse launched a joint project with the Japanese textile manufacturer Toyoshima, which resulted in a collection of classic sneakers in three colors - blue (with the name Blue Mallow), coffee (with the name Drip Coffee) and pink (with the name Sakura).
The latter name is associated not only with the fact that the sneakers are painted in soft pink, inherent in blooming Japanese cherries, but also with the fact that the dye based on Japanese sakura petals, which was specially developed by Toyoshima, is used to stain the sneakers of this model.
As planned, buying a pair of Sakura Converse sneakers could increase the number of cherry trees in Japan, as part of the proceeds from the sale will be used to plant sakura trees in the northeastern Tohoku region of Japan, where forests were badly damaged by the 2011 tsunami.
Converse Sakura shoes at the price of 9000 yen ($ 83), as well as the Drip Coffee and Blue Mallow models (for which dyes based on coffee grounds and a mixture of blue herbal tea were used respectively) will go on sale in August and will be presented in the Toyoshima online store Food textile
