North American holding company Designer Brands, which owns the international footwear retail chain DSW, has acquired the sportswear brand Keds from the American Wolverine Worldwide, writes Worldfootwear.com. That Wolverine is looking for a buyer for this asset, we wrote earlier.
The deal will allow Designer Brands to continue to expand its casual and athletic footwear portfolio, which already includes brands such as Le Tigre and Topo Athletic.
Parent company DSW also announced that it is going to become the exclusive licensee of another Wolverine Worldwide brand, Hush Puppies, in the US and Canada. DSW is currently the exclusive retail distributor for Hush Puppies in the US. The new agreement will give Designer Brands exclusive rights to sell Hush Puppies brand products across all channels in the US and Canada, including operating the HushPuppies.com DTC business. It is expected that the license agreement will come into force at the end of this year.
