VF Corp, which owns the Timberland and Vans brands, announced the opening of the Tokyo Design Collective in the Tokyo Harajuku area to expand its creative potential, writes Worldfootwear.com.
According to VF Corp, Tokyo Design Collective (TDC)'s mission is to "strengthen VF's commitment to infusing inspiring Japanese design and craftsmanship into its iconic global brands." To this end, the company will have its own design team and a network of freelance designers, artists and Japanese brands. In addition, TDC will host a Design in Residence program to serve as an incubator for design talent for the corporation.
“We will use this new hub to inspire and create new design concepts that not only connect with the Japanese consumer, but will be broadcast and gain momentum in other global markets,” said Mitch Whitaker, president of the North Asia and Tokyo Design Collective.
Design studio TDC is already working on several new projects within the VF brand portfolio, many of which are already in development and will be released this year.
