The share of online sales in the market of clothes, shoes and accessories - no more than 12%

According to the forecast of Fashion Consulting Group (FCG), the share of online sales in the segment of clothes, shoes and accessories in Russia according to the results of 2019 will not exceed 12%. In the 2018 year, this figure was 10%, reaching 235 billion rubles, the FCG study says, Kommersant writes.

The fashion goods segment traditionally ranks second in terms of growth dynamics in online trading in Russia, after the electronics segment. At the same time, online sales of clothes, shoes and accessories are developed much weaker than in other countries. According to FCG CEO Anna Lebsak-Kleimans, such a weak development of online sales in Russia should first of all be attributed to the influence of the economic situation and the low income level of the population. According to her, about 25% of Russians still prefer to shop at clothing fairs. Many Russian consumers are distrustful of online shopping, fearing that the quality of the product may not be as declared in the online store.

Another problem of e-commerce in Russia, according to market participants, is the shortage of storage space. The situation may change the active construction of warehouse real estate. At the same time, the development of virtual fitting rooms by large online stores and points of delivery of goods become e-commerce development drivers in the segment of clothing, footwear and accessories in major cities of the country.

According to FCG forecasts, online purchases can reach 25 – 30% of the total only in the 7-8 perspective.

According to the forecast of Fashion Consulting Group (FCG), the share of online sales in the segment of clothing, footwear and accessories in Russia by the end of 2019 will be no more than 12%. In 2018 this indicator amounted to ...
