This is not the first time Permira has invested in fashion brands - the foundation already owns stakes in Hugo Boss and New Look.

Recall that Dr. Martens sells about five million pairs of shoes a year. Production is mainly located overseas, but part of the production is still produced at the Northampton factory.

According to the results of the last fiscal year ending March 31 2013, sales of Dr. Martens grew by 27 percent year on year and amounted to 160 million pounds. Net income increased from 17,9 million to 18,4 million pounds.

British private equity firm Permira has bought the shoe company R. Griggs Group Ltd, owner of the Dr. Martens, for $ 485 million. The final deal will be closed in January 2014 ...
