The creative director of British footwear brand Dr. Martens, Darren McCoy, is leaving his position after ten years with the shoe company. Who will replace him has not yet been announced, writes Worldfootwear.com.
Dr. Martens global creative director Darren McCoy has announced his departure from the brand to “embrace new opportunities and creative challenges.” “This has not been an easy choice, as you can imagine, but I feel now is the right time to close this amazing chapter and begin writing the next one,” he announced on LinkedIn.
“Exactly 10 years ago, I joined the brand at a time when it was ready to take bold risks. With an incredible group of passionate people – both long-standing and new – true brand ambassadors who shared an unwavering belief in its potential, we helped transform the business from a company worth around £136 million to a £1 billion powerhouse,” he added.
McCoy joined the British footwear company in January 2015 as global category manager. He was then promoted to global head of product and merchandising in 2017 and then creative director in 2021. He previously worked at Asics, VF Corp. and adidas.
McCoy's departure announcement comes as Dr. Martens is undergoing a CEO transition. Kenny Wilson, who is set to step down as CEO at the end of 2024, is set to be replaced by Ije Nwokorie, who was previously chief brand officer at Dr. Martens.
