British shoe brand Dr. Martens has launched a Made in England Deadstock collection that uses high quality leftover leather from various tanneries as part of the company's commitment to reducing waste.. Com.
Footwear and leather craftsmen at the Dr. Martens factory in Northamptonshire will blend surplus leather from different sections of cowhide in a maximum use, minimum waste fashion to create the Deadstock boots with a patchwork aesthetic. Different pieces use different finishing techniques, such as exaggerated stitching, color options, raw edges, and assorted hand-punched eyelets.
“The Deadstock collection would not be possible without the high quality leathers we use throughout our Made In England range. Our tanneries ship whole cowhides that are produced and carved by skilled artisans using the latest technology. But even such a fusion of man and machine, and such an approach to the purchase of materials, can lead to the remnants of the leather, ”says the brand’s website.
The Dr. Martens 1460 eight-eye boot is crafted from several leathers from renowned tanneries, including Desert Oasis Suede, Classic Oiled Shoulder and Wax Commander by CF Stead (UK) and Dublin Leather by Horween (Chicago). Each leather type serves a different purpose, although brown and tan create an overall harmonious look. The price of a pair on the brand's website is £239.00.
The 1461 boots are based on Quillon leather with soft Desert Oasis suede and classic Split suede from the CF tannery in Leeds. The price of a pair of boots 1461 is £209.00
