Pakistan ramps up shoe exports

Footwear exports from Pakistan increased by 2022% between July and October 82, a year-on-year growth of 31%, while leather exports increased slightly, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) Worldfootwear.com.

In the reporting period, exports of leather manufacturers amounted to $212,5 million, reflecting an increase of only 2,7% compared to the same period last year.

In addition, during this period, Pakistani tanneries shipped 4,5 million square meters of finished leather worth $59,8 million. These figures indicate a decrease in sales by 7,5% in physical terms and by 3,2% in value compared to the same period last year.

Footwear

From July to October 2022, Pakistan sold a total of 9,68 million pairs of shoes, generating $62,5 million in revenue, up 82,3% in volume and 31,1% in value over the same period 2021.

The export of leather footwear accounts for approximately 82% of the total export value. Thus, during these four months, the country exported 3,5 million pairs of shoes worth $51,2 million, which reflects an increase of 53,6% and 31,6% in volume and value terms, respectively, compared to the same period a year earlier.

The rest of the segments, canvas shoes and other footwear, also experienced significant growth during the period. Pakistan exported 48 pairs of canvas shoes worth $293 (an increase of 392,3% in volume and 414,2% in value compared to the same period last year) and 6,2 million pairs of other shoes worth $11 million ( growth amounted to 102,8% in physical terms and 26,1% in value terms compared to the previous year).

Pakistani shoe industry

According to the World Footwear yearbook, the Pakistani footwear industry is the 7th largest in the world, employing about a million people, mostly in the Punjab province. Mostly Pakistani shoe manufacturers are oriented to the domestic market, the country's main export markets are the United States, Europe and Arab countries.
