French brand Clergerie has found a new owner

American company Titan Industries, Inc. acquired French footwear brand Clergerie, saving it from liquidation. Titan Industries paid €700 for the Clergerie brand, with a €000 million commitment to invest in its development, according to Footwearnews.com.

The new owner of the French brand is going to leave 45% of the Clergerie staff (59 out of 134 employees) and promises to keep the brand's factory in France.

On March 29, bankruptcy proceedings began against the French luxury shoe brand Clergerie., after the marque's relaunch under new parent company French Legacy Group in 2020 failed.

“The situation in the Clergerie Group at the time of our takeover was very fragile, and the impact of the pandemic and the situation in Ukraine was a double shock. We hit a wall due to reduced store traffic, increased lead times and delivery delays from suppliers,” said FLG President Jerome Espinos.

Founded in 1981 by Robert Clergerie, Clergerie produced shoes in its own factory in the historic shoemaking capital of Romans-sur-Isere, France. Clergerie has 13 own stores in France, the brand's footwear is represented in partner retail in cities such as Brussels, Geneva, Los Angeles, London, Madrid, New York and Tokyo.

Titan Industries CEO Joe Waknin said that some of the brand's stores will be closed, but Clergerie will continue to work with key retailers.

Titan Industries LLC founded in 1998 is a major player in the women's fashion footwear market. The company's brand portfolio includes Badgley Mischka, L'Agence, Daniel x Diamond and Dee Ocleppo. Joe Waknin has collaborated with various celebrities for many years and launched Gwen Stefani's LAMB collection, as well as Daya by Zendaya.
