According to international consulting firm Kearney, the luxury goods market in India is expected to reach $12 billion by 2028 (up from $7,7 billion in 2023).
Galeries Lafayette hopes to capture a significant share of this promising market, and “Mumbai has a significant share, making it a natural location to open its first store in India,” emphasize Galeries Lafayette and its Indian partner, the Aditya Birla Group, which signed a partnership agreement in 2022.
The opening of the Mumbai department store has been delayed by one year. The French group plans to open a second Galeries Lafayette store in Delhi next year.
