Germany increased footwear exports in 2022 by 19,4%

According to the Federal Association of the German Footwear and Leather Industry (HDS/L), German footwear exports in 2022 increased in value terms by 19,4% compared to the previous year and amounted to 9,6 billion euros, writes Worldfootwear.com.

The association noted that "the revival of foreign trade was especially noticeable in the second half of the year" - during this period, in particular, 225,75 million pairs of shoes were exported in the amount of 5,4 billion euros, while in the first half of 2022, 175,2 million pairs of shoes were exported. Germany sent 4,2 million pairs of shoes abroad for a total of XNUMX billion euros.

The most important sales markets were France and Poland. In 2022, German footwear exports to France exceeded one billion euros (2021: 926,2 million euros), while to Poland it was about 1,3 billion euros (2021: 1,08 billion euros). HDS/L added that the volume of shoes exported to the UK continues to decline. Last year, German footwear exports to the UK amounted to 20 million euros in value terms, compared to 37 million euros in 2021.

In the past 2022, Germany also recorded an increase in footwear imports by 27,7% to 14,3 billion euros. The country bought 1,3 billion euros worth of Italian shoes, only marginally more than a year earlier. But the association said in a statement that "the future of imports is clearly in Asia." China is at the top of the ranking of importing countries for Germany, with 2022 billion euros worth of shoes imported from China to the European country in 3,9 (2021: 2,7 billion euros), but Vietnam is catching up with China. Vietnam sold 2,7 billion euros worth of shoes to Germany last year, compared to 1,7 billion euros worth of shoes imported into the country in 2021. India is also "becoming an increasingly important trading partner for footwear imports" to Germany.

According to World Footwear 2022, Germany is one of the key players in the international footwear market, being the second importer and fourth exporter in terms of value.
