Luxury brand Gucci has launched three new sneaker models to showcase an innovative, in-house designed material that is free from animal products.
The composition of the material Demetra - more than 77% of raw materials of plant origin, it consists of a mixture of viscose and wood pulp, as well as bio-based polyurethane. The material is produced at the Gucci factory in Italy, and is created using tanning processes, which provides such properties as softness, pliability, elasticity.
The new material was tested by Gucci on three models of the Gucci Basket, Gucci New Ace and Gucci Rhyton sneakers. The sneakers are already available in the brand's retail stores at prices ranging from 590 to 790 euros. Demetra is used in most shoe uppers and linings. Other components contain organic cotton, recycled steel, and recycled polyester.
Demetra can be used to make clothing, footwear and accessories.
In the first phase, Gucci will offer Demetra to the brands of its parent company Kering, and from the beginning of 2022 will make the innovative material available to the entire fashion industry.
