In Russia, an alternative platform for online sales has appeared, which since 2013 of the year has been held by retailers in our country once a year, on Friday between 23 and 29 on November. The Association of Internet-Trading Companies (AKIT) announced the opening of its own realblackfriday.ru sales site and the “Real Black Friday” campaign.
The tradition of arranging sales between 23 and 29 on November and the term Black Friday came to Russia from the USA, where the traditional Christmas season of sales begins on the first Friday after Thanksgiving, both in online stores and in traditional retail. In Russia, "Black Friday" is still an action of sales on the Internet. It involves both specialized online retailers and traditional retail, which also has online stores.
Since 2013, the Black Friday or Black Friday online retailer sales campaign has been held in Russia by Black Friday, which owns the blackfridaysale.ru website. This company registered a trademark in its name, and according to AKIT representatives, it now threatens to sue anyone who uses the phrase “Black Friday” for online sales.
AKIT, which unites 30 retailers, is trying to challenge the legitimacy of such registration, and appealed to the Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Russian Federation with a request to recognize the actions of Black Friday as unfair. “By virtue of its common usage, Black Friday is a stable expression, and by law it cannot be registered as a trademark,” the association says.
At the moment, such retailers as M.Video, Citylink, Svyaznoy, Eldorado, Lamoda, 220 Volt, Yulmart, KupiVIP, MediaMarkt, Sportmaster, Detsky Mir, OTTO, Ozon, Inventive Retail Group, Adamas have already confirmed that they will be presented exclusively on the site of "True Black Friday", which is announced by AKIT on November 25th.
Apart from AKIT member companies, other companies have also confirmed their participation in the action. The partners of the campaign are Russian Post, DPD, InPost, Qiwi, Mnogo.ru, Bitrix 24, Price.ru, Blizko.ru, RetailRocket, Flocktory, etc. The Association is confident that the sale will bring together at least 200 participants - online stores and online -services. In addition, a section with Russian-made goods, which has already become traditional for AKIT shares, will appear on the website.
Meanwhile, the list of online retailers that were announced to participate on the website of the original organizers of the Russian Black Friday, blackfridaysale.ru, looks even more impressive. In particular, among the players of shoe retail there are Ralf Ringer, Respect, Vans, Thomas Munz, and a fun walking shoe store for children. On this site, sales will begin a day earlier, on November 24.
