Spain sees footwear exports rise in 2024

From January to November 2024, Spain exported more than 160,4 million pairs for a value of 3,2 billion euros. Compared to the same period in 2023, there is an increase of 9,7% in volume and 7% in value. The growth of Spanish exports was greatly facilitated by Italy, which increased its purchases of footwear from Spain in 2024, writes Revista del Calzado.

In the first 10 months of 2024, the flow of shoes from Madrid to Rome increased by almost 60% in quantity and by 39% in value. The growth of Iberian shoe exports to Italy allowed it to overtake France (-6%), the market that is traditionally the main buyer of shoes for Spain.

The main buyers of footwear were (in descending order of value): Italy (+38,9%), France (-6,2%), Germany (+4,3%), Portugal (+8,3%) and Poland (+12,9%). Overall, the average price for an exported pair in the first eleven months of 2024 was 20,1 euros.

In terms of imports, in the first eleven months of 2024, Spain purchased 317,5 million pairs of shoes abroad, worth 4,5 billion euros. This is equivalent to an increase of 7,4% in quantity and 6,4% in value compared to the same period in 2023.

The specialist professional publication on the Spanish footwear market, Revista del Calzado, highlights the decline in footwear purchases from China compared to the significant growth in imports from Vietnam.

The main suppliers of footwear to Spain were (in descending order of value): China (-6,4%), Vietnam (+28,2%), Italy (+4,5%), Indonesia (+14,5%) and Belgium (+58,9%). The average price of a pair bought abroad between January and November 2024 was €14,2.
