According to the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Shoes (FICE), in the first half of the year, the export of footwear in Spain increased by 1,2% in value terms and reached 1,39 billion euros and 84,7 million pairs. These figures indicate an increase in exports by 1,2% in value terms and a decrease in kind by 2,6% in comparison with the results obtained in the first half of 2017. Exports to non-EU countries grew by 7%.
The European Union is still the main market for the footwear industry in Spain. It accounts for about 79% of total exports in pairs and about 72% in value terms.
Spanish footwear exports to the EU in the reporting period amounted to 1 billion euros and 67 million pairs, respectively, which is 0,8% less in value terms and 4,1% less in kind than in the same period a year earlier.
The main countries that import Spanish shoes in the EU are France (18,3%), Italy (12,2%), Germany (9,7%), Portugal (7,1%) and Great Britain (7.0%).
Exports of Spanish shoes to non-EU countries reached 387 million euros and 17,6 million pairs, which is 28% of total exports in value terms and 21% in kind.
In the first half of the year, shoe exports from Spain to non-EU countries increased in value by 7%.
About 54% of the export of Spanish shoes in the reporting period accounted for shoes made of genuine leather (758,4 million euros).
Faux leather shoes already account for about 70,3% of the volume of exports of Spanish shoes in pairs. In value terms, it accounts for 45,6%. Exports of these products declined by 5,1% in pairs and 0,4% in value terms.
