Adobe research demonstrates the power of social media advertising and influencer marketing.

Attention, marketers! Brands that skimp on social media marketing risk losing sales, warn Adobe analysts. They conducted a study on the impact of social media and influencer advertising on retailers' revenue during the holiday season in the US, according to Business Insider.

According to Adobe's analysis of online consumer transactions, about a quarter of US retail websites' holiday season revenue came from either clicks on social media posts or affiliate links from influencers, publishers, or other partners. Despite growth, influencer marketing still lags behind more traditional advertising methods like search advertising and digital video in terms of annual advertising spend in the US.

Affiliate links and influencer marketing accounted for approximately 20% of the estimated $258 billion in revenue generated by American retail websites during the holiday season. This type of marketing's share of revenue for the holiday season through the end of 2025 increased by approximately 16% compared to the same period a year earlier.

Excluding influencer posts, social media marketing grew by approximately 40% in November and December compared to the previous year. This category accounted for approximately 5% of revenue for US retail websites. Adobe calculated this by factoring in user clicks from non-affiliated social media posts that led to a purchase on the retailer's website.

Adobe's analysis focused on sales on U.S. retail websites and did not include purchases made directly on social apps like TikTok Shop, which helped merchants generate more than $500 million in sales in the four days between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The influence of social media advertising and influencer blogs on consumer choice can no longer be ignored. In Russia, as elsewhere, consumers actively use social media, follow bloggers, and shape their consumer choices, in part, based on the information they receive in this media space.
