John Lobb to move production to new Northampton, UK

John Lobb, the traditional Northampton shoemaker, will leave its historic workshop and move to a new production site in the city centre, scheduled for completion by 2029, reports Fashion Network.

Owned by the Hermès group since 1976, the company has been located for generations in the heart of Northampton, a town long considered the British shoemaking capital. Most of John Lobb's shoes and accessories are still made in the UK, and the company also creates custom-made shoes in its Paris workshop.

Nowadays, British shoe brands primarily manufacture their products abroad. However, the city of Northampton, although no longer the active shoe manufacturing center it once was, still maintains several production sites, particularly for brands for whom local quality and craftsmanship are key elements of their identity. Among such brands is Church's, owned by Prada.

The John Lobb boutique chain has 18 locations worldwide. In Russia, John Lobb shoes are available in multi-brand St-James boutiques, which are managed by the distribution company Jamilco.
