By 2020, it is planned to increase the share of domestic light industry goods on the Russian market to 40% from the current 25%. This was announced by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov, speaking at the forum "Light Industry: Course towards Competitiveness". According to him, the Russian production of light industry goods currently closes only about 25% of the domestic market, while the share of imports reaches 40%, and about 35% of the retail market for light industry is illegally produced and imported goods.
"We have significant growth potential. We need to make a breakthrough that will allow domestic producers to return most of the domestic market," said the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. This indicator will be included in the draft updated strategy for the development of light industry for the period up to 2020, which is planned to be submitted to the Russian government by mid-2015, added Manturov. The increase in the share of Russian production will be carried out primarily through the development of its own raw material base, the minister said. “In this field there are problems with both natural fibers and materials - cotton, linen, wool, and synthetic ones,” he said.
