China remains the largest supplier of footwear to the United States.

According to the Footwear Distributors and Retailers Association (FDRA), based on data from the U.S. International Trade Commission, the U.S. will import 964 million pairs of shoes from China in 2025. The data also shows that China's share of U.S. footwear imports has fallen to a 35-year low in both value and volume, with tariffs playing a key role in this shift, catalyzing the diversification of supply sources as uncertainty discouraged companies from returning to China on a large scale, Worldfootwear.com reports.

Meanwhile, Vietnam maintained its position as the second-largest footwear exporter to the United States, with 574 million pairs. Indonesia ranked third with 194 million pairs, helped by price competitiveness driven by exchange rate fluctuations, while Cambodia's exports grew by 50% to 105 million pairs. India achieved a record share of 37 million pairs. Mexico exported 21 million pairs, and Italy 20 million pairs.

Among the other top ten shoe exporters to the US, Bangladesh rose to eighth place, increasing shipments by 76% to a near-record level, while Germany fell to ninth place with sales of 16 million pairs. Thailand entered the top ten, exporting 14 million pairs.

Another important point: Brazil dropped out of the top 10 due to higher tariffs for most of 2025, which reduced its competitiveness in the US market.

According to the 2025 World Footwear Yearbook, the United States is the world's largest footwear import market, with domestic demand almost entirely met by imports. Exports remain limited and declined slightly in 2024, reflecting the country's heavy reliance on global supplies.
