Vivienne Westwood, a British fashion designer who pioneered punk fashion in the 70s and continued to influence global fashion until her last days, has died in the UK at the age of 81.
Vivienne Westwood reportedly passed away on Thursday 29 December 2022 peacefully surrounded by her family in Clapham, South London. “Vivienne continued to do what she loved until the last moment: designing, working on her art, writing a book and changing the world for the better. She lived an amazing life. Its innovation and impact over the past 60 years has been enormous and will be reflected in the future.
Vivienne Westwood was born in 1941 in Tintwistle, in the East Midlands of England, and came into the spotlight in the 70s after meeting Malcolm McLaren in 1965, the manager of the Sex Pistols, who along with her was a driving force in punk culture. In 1971, they opened a boutique at 430 Kings Road in the London Borough of Chelsea, where Westwood sold her handmade pieces worn by the Sex Pistols and New York Dolls. The store changed its name every time the designer released a new collection.
In 1981, Vivienne Westwood made her debut on the London runways with her first fashion show, Pirate, which reflected her passion for history and art - in addition to flowing pirate shirts, cocked hats, pirate high boots with many straps - from fashion 17 th century. And her dresses of the Empress Josephine and the abundance of corsets came from the clothes of the 18th. The images created by Westwood were repeatedly reflected in the collections of famous fashion designers and had a huge impact on the development of fashion in general.
The cost of Vivienne Westwood Ltd is estimated at 50 million pounds (4,3 billion rubles).
