Loro Piana under judicial supervision over worker exploitation case

LVMH-owned Italian luxury brand Loro Piana is under a one-year judicial review over allegations of worker exploitation and inadequate supply chain controls, Worldfootwear.com reports.

A Milan court found that Loro Piana outsourced production of its products to two front companies with no manufacturing capacity, which then subcontracted to Chinese workshops in Italy that were found to be exploiting workers. The company was found guilty of failing to properly supervise its suppliers, the court ruled.

As a result, Loro Piana was placed under judicial administration for a year to address supply chain shortcomings. An external administrator was appointed to oversee the brand's operations during this period.

The company is not under criminal investigation and the order will be lifted if it complies with all legal requirements before the 12-month deadline set by the court.

Loro Piana is the fifth luxury brand and the second LVMH-owned brand, after Dior, to violate Italian labor laws since 2023. Other brands that have tolerated illegal and unethical labor conditions throughout their supply chains include Giorgio Armani, Valentino and handbag maker Alviero Martini.
