LVMH-owned Italian luxury brand Loro Piana said it would "take specific legal action against those who seek to undermine the iconic character" of its White Sole shoe, which features a white sole as its signature design detail, writes W.WD.
The White Sole Moccasin was first released in 2005 as a sailing shoe. However, the popularity of the model, which is distinguished by its special comfort and lightness, has transferred it into the category of everyday urban shoes.
A distinctive feature of these models is their white sole, which testifies to their maritime origin (white soles do not leave marks on the wooden decks of sailing yachts) and is a hallmark of Loro Piana's quality. The lightness of the sole of the White Sole shoe is achieved through a combination of natural rubber and technical products that give the shoe stability and traction, while the outsole's reduced sensitivity to temperature changes allows it to retain its shape and provide unrestricted support.
“Over time, White Sole footwear has become a hallmark of the house, and it is for this reason that Loro Piana is committed to protecting the heritage of its brand,” the company said in a statement.
Founded in 1924 and based in Cuaron, Italy, Loro Piana is also considered the largest producer of cashmere, White Sole is the brand's most iconic shoe line - shoes not only have suede and leather uppers, but also wool (made from ultra-fine merino wool ). The company operates under the "Made in Italy" policy and has 9 production sites in the country.
The attempt by a luxury brand to secure the right to the color of the sole is already the second precedent in the fashion world. Previously, Christian Louboutin had repeatedly challenged his right to the corporate red color of the sole in the courts. The Christian Louboutin red sole design is currently registered as a trademark in the United States and the European Union.
