In February this year, a number of Moroccan shoe manufacturers represented their country at the FN Platform exhibition in Las Vegas, which is the main exhibition site for the shoe market in North America. The participation of Moroccan companies in the exhibition in the USA was initiated by the Association of Exporters (Maroc Export) and the Federation of Moroccan tanners, writes the French information portal leconomiste.com.
Currently, the American shoe market has more than 350 million consumers, which is equivalent to the European Union market, with more than 99% of shoes sold in the United States being imported. About 80% of shoe imports are goods from China.
Moroccans participate in the exhibition of professional footwear exhibition FN Platform for the second year. The shoe industry of Morocco is distinguished by its diversity and a wide range of products - these are casual shoes, shoes for sports (golf and skiing) for men, women and children, as well as specialized shoes.
To reduce competition, Moroccan companies aim to gain a niche where attention is paid more to quality than price, including the luxury segment, the niche of specialized shoes, such as dance shoes or professional shoes (boots for police, security guards, etc.) , they are also ready to offer shoes at reasonable prices.
Thanks to the modernization of the shoe industry of Morocco, Moroccan manufacturing enterprises attract many international brands that produce their shoes in Morocco and sell in the United States. Some Moroccan companies, subcontractors of European groups, also produce shoes of the middle and high price segment under their own brands. Some of them adopted the quality standards of famous Italian brands, and are able to sew shoes in a fairly short time.
The majority of the industry belongs to leather processing enterprises, they are more than 230 factories, which account for about 75% of the production volume, they cooperate with world shoe manufacturers, which allows exporting about 72% of the produced shoes. According to statistics, from January to September 2016, Morocco exported to the United States leather shoes worth more than 16,96 million dirhams.
