The Ministry of Industry and Trade supported the introduction of a 22% value-added tax (VAT) on foreign goods ordered by Russians online from January 1, 2027. сообщает TASS, citing the department's press service.
The ministry clarified that it is working with the Ministry of Finance to develop a more streamlined implementation mechanism for the tax. It is expected that the VAT rate will be 7% starting in January 2027, increasing to 14% in 2028, and reaching 22% in 2029. This measure will apply to non-food products purchased by individuals on foreign online platforms.
The Russian Union of Leather and Shoemakers previously submitted a proposal to the government to introduce a 22% VAT rate on goods ordered by individuals abroad, effective 2027. The organization also proposed extending customs duties to inexpensive foreign goods and introducing mandatory labeling of imported products.
