The French fashion designer died at the Neuilly hospital, near Paris, with an undisclosed cause of death.
Known for his avant-garde geometric designs, Pierre Cardin rose to fame in the 1950s and 1960s with the Space Age collection and the iconic Bubble dress.
In addition to his accomplishments in fashion, he also proved to be very successful in the licensing business. Cardin had 800 licenses in 140 countries. Under Cardin's license, not only clothes were produced, but also very many categories of products - from mattresses to cigarettes, including men's shoes.
Pierre Cardin fashion house was founded in 1950. In 1963, the designer released the first ready-to-wear collection. Among the celebrities, fans of his talent were Jackie Kennedy, Jeanne Moreau, The Beatle and many others.
