Moscow entered the Top-3 cities in terms of the share of foreign players in the retail market, according to the research "Retail chains: the degree of business globalization" in 2014, prepared by the international real estate consulting company CBRE. In first place was Paris, which managed to attract 50 new brands last year. France as a whole leads among the countries in attracting new market participants.
Moscow in 2013 took 7th place in the ranking of the activity of international brands with 31 new networks in the city market.
The networks that entered the Moscow market represent all price segments, although in 2013 there were fewer luxury brands than in previous years. In terms of geographical representation, almost 60% of the brands that entered the Moscow market belong to European companies, 35% to US companies, and the remaining 5% to two Japanese brands, Marukame and Miki House. 24 networks have opened their points in shopping centers. This trend is especially evident among clothing and footwear chains. The largest number of new discoveries occurred at the shopping and entertainment centers Afimall City, Mega Belaya Dacha and Atrium.
According to the results of 2013, 45% of international networks were present in Moscow, the same as in New York. For 2014-2015, Moscow is scheduled for a record commissioning of new retail space, which in total may amount to about 1,2 million square meters. m
The growth of a new high-quality offer and the launch of such significant projects as Air Park, Columbus, Mosaic, Vegas Crocus City, with a high degree of probability will have a positive impact on the plans of international networks to enter the Moscow market. Despite the instability of the macroeconomic and geopolitical situation, in January-May 2014, 14 new international brands appeared in Moscow. By the end of the year, at least 16 more international networks are expected to enter, which allows us to talk about the continued high interest in the Russian retail market from foreign players.
