Known primarily for its sneakers, New Balance is increasingly turning to the casual urban footwear segment. Evidence of this is the new Allerdale shoe model in the brand's "Made in UK" line, writes Fashion Network.
According to Sam Pearce, creative director of New Balance, the new Allerdale is a “new market opportunity for New Balance.” It’s an attempt by the brand to move beyond vintage running shoes and capitalize on the fashion trend of moving toward more formal styles.
The Allerdale sneakers are the latest addition to the Made in UK collection. This all-new model “combines the brand’s heritage in walking footwear with a contemporary design”. The hiking boot-inspired sneakers are made from leather and suede with an embroidered New Balance logo, a cupsole, heavy-duty stitching and a tread reminiscent of a hiking boot.
Sam Pearce added: “Drawing on the heritage of our revolutionary Hiker models and our lesser-known 1980s walking shoe collection, also made in England, this model is inspired by the environment in which it was conceived and appropriately named. (Editor’s note: Allerdale is an area in the north-west of England.) The Allerdale is a modern expression of classic style, for those who want to forge their own path.”
The price of New Balance Allerdale in brown leather is 250 euros.
