Nielsen: Share of online sales of FMCG products for the year may reach 4%

Nielsen Russia Retail Director Konstantin Loktev suggested that by the end of the year, the share of online sales in the FMCG segment in Russia could be 4%. Before Covid-19 quarantine, it was 1,7%, writes Retail.ru.

The expert spoke during an online meeting organized by Retail.ru on the topic “What will be the outlets in the future?”. Referring to statistics from the Higher School of Economics, he also noted that in 2020 the decline in real incomes of the Russian population was 6,5%. And if earlier the fall in income was caused by inflation, now there is a drop in the nominal income of the population, due to the fact that people lose their jobs. “This will certainly affect demand. In 2015, retail sales fell by 10%. This year, the fall may be even deeper. "

According to a Nielsen survey, retailers expect lower demand, an increase in online sales, and a restructuring of traditional retail in the coming year.
