In St. Petersburg, the number of Nike stores decreased by 4 times, and the reason for this, according to the company's former partners, is despotism regarding the assortment policy. Of the 24 Nike mono-brand stores, a significant part of which belonged to local companies, only 6 remains today. Of these, only one belongs to the St. Petersburg player, Rockland, which operates under its own brand, but sells Nike's assortment at 80 – 90%, the rest to Nike itself and the federal company Inventive Retail Group.
Former partners reproach Nike for despotism and the imposition of assortment policy. According to them, the company is too rigidly imposing its corporate values on partners, for example, requiring them to have a collection in stores addressed to the LGBT community (rainbow-colored sneakers and gym shoes). Or sending summer sneakers of bright colors in March, although at that time there was still snow in Russia. At Nike, they believe that dealers should be able to sell all the goods they send.
After the closure of affiliate stores, the world leader in the sports industry decided to change the approach to building a dealer network in Russia and, in the future, rely on a federal distributor instead of small local players.
