American sports giant Nike has sued 589 websites for allegedly selling fake versions of Nike and Converse shoes online.
In addition, Nike has filed charges against the owners of 676 social media accounts. “Infringer websites have advertised or offered counterfeit, Nike or Converse counterfeit products to US consumers in the past 12 months,” the indictment filed with the New York District Court said.
Nike has charged the unscrupulous online merchants with nine counts of trademark infringement, trademark counterfeiting, trademark cyberpiracy, and other illegal activities under federal and New York State laws.
